"Screen
Pass provides password protection for your network-attached
computer. Security is provided by the Network Operating System
that is running on the LAN. Once installed, Screen Pass
acts as any other screen saver on the Windows Workstation, but
it requires the user's authenticated, network password to deactivate.
A device driver is installed that prevents rebooting to deactivate
the screen saver. This is about the best level of protection users
can expect without encrypting the entire hard drive. When the
screen saver is active, people can leave messages that appear
when the user unlocks the PC. Other security measures include
preventing users from changing the screen saver, central management,
and local password options in case the user isn't logged into
the network. Inactivity time-outs can automatically log users
off of the network, too. Failed login attempts are recorded and
can be reported on, along with statistics on user logins, elapsed
time, and user id. The network security can be used on Novell,
Windows NT, and Banyan Vines networks."

"Screen
Pass is a simple and elegant extension of the Windows
Screen Saver that simplifies life for users and managers. ...
It uses users' network passwords to unlock the screen saver, and
it lets the system manager unlock the PC with the network administrator's
password. ... Screen Pass promises to make my life
a lot easier and is a welcome addition to my tool kit."
