Automatic Login/Logout for NetWare Servers
Login
In Novell environments, LinkLaunch has the ability to attach and login to
servers as it is creating drive mappings. For NetWare 4.x servers with Directory
Services available, LinkLaunch will attempt to do a background authentication.
For other NetWare servers or if the background authentication fails, LinkLaunch
will display a Login dialog box and attempt to do a bindery login.
Logout
When LinkLaunch deletes a mapping to a NetWare server, either when an
application terminates or because of the -d option, it checks for other mappings using
the server. If there are no other drive letters mapped to the server,
LinkLaunch performs a logout and unattaches from the server.
Bypassing the Login Dialog by Using Shared ID's
LinkLaunch can store user ID's and encrypted passwords for transparent login
to bindery file servers.
Using a text editor, create a file 'LLNWIDS.INI' in the same directory as
LL.EXE. Insert a section heading for each server that is to be accessed using a
shared ID. For example,
[server1]
The next time you run a LinkLaunch icon that does a login to SERVER1, the
login dialog box will appear. If you login successfully, the ID and an encrypted
password will be saved in LLNWIDS.INI. For subsequent executions the login
dialog will not appear (unless the login fails). If the login fails, the dialog box
will appear and you may enter a different ID and password. This will not
change the settings in LLNWIDS.INI. The only way to encrypt a different password is
to delete the 'Password=' entry and run the LinkLaunch icon again.
If the user is already logged on to the specified server, the shared ID is
ignored.
For security reasons, the encrypted password will only work if the directory
containing LLNWIDS.INI and LL.EXE is on a network drive.
More Than One Shared ID's per Server
If you have need of more than one shared ID per server, you may include a user
ID, the shared ID, on the LinkLaunch command line in parenthesis next to the
server name. For example,
LL \\server1(generic1)\sys\apps\excel.exe
where generic1 is a shared user ID.
For the password to be encrypted and saved, you must also have the following
section in the llnwids.ini file:
[server1(generic1)].
You can setup as many shared user ID's as you like.
